“Chaos-trol”

Recently, I did a series of one-off screen prints for a holiday show at XGallery and ReSaleArt in Portland, Oregon. When deciding what direction to take while making paper prints, I started with some designs I created for screen printing tote bags (yes, the same ones in my shop), I reconnected with some ideas I was exploring in graduate school. I decided to be silly and name these prints “chaostrol,” a term I made up while working on my master’s thesis. The term explores the relationship between “chaos” and “control” and emphasizes the value of both being present. While my thesis explored the realm of games and play for embracing uncertainty, these prints are just a simple experiment: taking the familiar chess board (control/structure) and layering it with random abstract gestures from my large palette knife (chaos/free flow). I am thrilled with the simple play between the various lines and colors and hope others will enjoy them too!

These prints are currently for sale at ReSale Art in Portland, Oregon. You can find them there or reach out if you are interested.
