The pandemic has evoked a sense of unease and uncertainty. Stagnant for so long, concerned about the fluids and cells of something unseen, the pandemic has strongly influenced our lives.  This video installation explores the flow of color and liquids to represent this uncertainty and work towards processing what we all have experienced over the last few years. Through seeking something visually tangible, Cellement explores themes of isolation, microscopic threats, the flow of existence, and the search for connectedness. The work evokes its own sense of life that can provide company to those who stop and let the visual guide them.

With my background in film and media, I explored new ways of capturing materials and documenting the process of exploration. In this work, I used the lens of the camera to capture how hand sanitizer reacts to other substances. How does something that has become normal in our daily lives lend a hand to digesting what is going on around us? Can the movements of liquid provide a needed escape for the moment? This is one iteration of a larger body of work that explores how materials can help us process our environments and situations.

Cellement is a video installation featuring two videos. Fall 2021.
